Residents in White Plains, North Castle, Scarsdale and Yonkers who are served by County Water District #1 may find their tap water cloudy or discolored throughout the month of March because of work that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection is doing inside the Kensico Dam. |

County distributes $74.8 million to local governments and almost $27 million to schools |

Did you know that Westchester County government shares its sales tax with our school districts, towns villages and some cities? In 2008, the county will have distributed $74.8 million to local governments and almost $27 million to the schools.
In contrast, Nassau and Suffolk Counties do not share any of their sales tax revenues. They keep over $1 billion. Westchester, after sharing with local governments and school districts, expects to keep about $478 million next year.

Westchester County is now taking applications for its home heating assistance program.
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) can help seniors on fixed incomes or low income residents pay for electricity, oil, gas, wood, kerosene, propane or coal heating. |
