Mayor Phil Amicone is pleased to announce that the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall, a smaller-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be in Yonkers from Wednesday, November 11 to Sunday, November 15 at Fleming Field, Prescott Street. Free and open to the public 24 hours a day, this traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is being brought to Yonkers by the Dignity Memorial Funeral Providers of Westchester and Bronx in partnership with the City of Yonkers and the Central Committee of Veterans Organizations.

Known as the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall, this faux- granite replica is dedicated to all Americans who served in Vietnam and honors all servicemen and women of the United States military forces. Each year the replica crisscrosses the country, allowing millions of visitors to see and touch its black, mirror-like surface inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died or are missing in Vietnam.

The traveling replica gives those Americans who might never travel to our nation's capital the chance to experience this powerful memorial. However, transporting and exhibiting a memorial that is 240 feet long and eight feet high generates many expenses and requires help from community volunteers.

More information about ceremonies and programs being planned for this event will be provided in the near future. In the meantime, please feel free to contact the City of Yonkers Department of Veterans Services at (914) 377-6700
